Asparagus
Posted in Uncategorized on 05/20/2009 08:55 am by JulieAsparagus. Most of us eat it, but do you know how it grows? I didn’t. I hadn’t really ever thought about it. And when I did think about it, I figured it grew on a stalk, a whole bunch on each one. Boy was I wrong. David visited an asparagus farm for work today and he sent me this picture…It just looks funny, doesn’t it?

Weird! I had never thought about it either, but I probably would have assumed the bunch growth thing too. So funny that they’re spread so far apart if each one is so skinny.

The grower had already come through the field and harvested most of the asparagus. Some pieces get left behind. They hand cut it just under the top of the soil and next season it will grow back.
It was really cool to see. I had never thought out how asparagus grows either, but I wouldn’t have expected it to grow like that!
